What is a Yahoo ID, you ask? It’s the key to unlocking the full power of services and tools like Yahoo Answers, the handle of your Yahoo email address, the username that allows you to save stocks you’re interested in on Yahoo Finance, and so much more. If you have a question you’re dying to ask on Yahoo Answers, or if you want to chat with your contacts on Yahoo Messenger, you’re going to need to make a Yahoo ID. Fortunately, it’s very easy to do and just takes five minutes or less.
Making a Yahoo ID
The way to make a Yahoo ID is to create a Yahoo account. During the registration process, you’ll select a unique username that will be used to identify you for all of Yahoo’s services and allow you to save and customize things within those services.
To get started making your new Yahoo ID, go to yahoo.com in any web browser on your computer or mobile device. On the Yahoo homepage, find the “Sign in” button in the upper right-hand portion of the screen, and click on it (I know, you don’t have a Yahoo account yet – just trust me on this).
When you see the sign in page, near the bottom you’ll see “New to Yahoo?”, followed by a link that says “Sign up for a new account”. Click on that link to register for your new Yahoo ID.
On the sign up page, you’ll be required to enter some basic personal information like your name, birthday, and cell phone number. This is also the exciting part where you get to make your new Yahoo ID. It can be anything you want as long as it’s not being used by anyone else – in other words, it has to be unique. If the name you want isn’t available, try adding some numbers to the end. For example, if firstname.lastname@example.org is taken, maybe email@example.com is available. Keep trying until you find a Yahoo ID you’re happy with that isn’t taken by someone else.
Next, pick a password to access your Yahoo account. Try to make it impossible for other people to guess (no pet’s names or dictionary words, for example). The best passwords include a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters.
When you’re satisfied with the information you’ve entered, click on “Create account”. You may have to verify that you’re not a robot with either a captcha code or using the cell phone number you provided. Once you’ve done that, your new Yahoo ID is ready to use!
